At the Soft Matter Product Design (SMPD) lab, we are driven by a mission to bridge the gap between academia and industry by fostering a collaborative community that celebrates and delivers insightful research.
Grounded in interdisciplinary principles from chemistry, pharmacy, biology, materials science, and engineering, we translate fundamental scientific understandings into the development and characterization of safe, effective, and innovative chemical products.
Our research spans a diverse range of applications, including hydrogel systems, biopharmaceutical formulations, and consumer product development. At SMPD, we believe that meaningful innovation begins with curiosity and ends with real-world impact—delivering smarter, safer, and more sustainable products for the future.
SMPD bridges the gap between detailed fundamental understanding via advanced characterization of soft matter systems (colloids, gels, emulsions/dispersions, aqueous surfactant systems) based on sustainable/green chemistry and the application of this knowledge to chemical product design in cosmetic/personal care, pharmaceutical, consumer products, foods and agro-product sectors. As demand continues to grow for high-performing, smart, and sustainable formulations, our core mission is to advance innovation in this area, especially by leveraging deep machine learning and AI models trained on advanced characterization data to drive accelerated outcomes in product design.
